SAND
Music and Lyrics by Nicola Marcello D'Amico
I wrote this song when I was living in San Anselmo, California in 1970.
It was late, the moon was full and I was alone
with a guitar, a bottle of wine
and a flute. There was a red rose in a pink vase. I started to strum, then finger-pick. The
moment was captured and the song just wrote itself. When I was back in Hollywood, I went to see my mother and, at
one
point,
I was at the piano singing and "Mamma" could hear me from
the kitchen.
When I was done, she came into
the room in tears and told me
it was
the
most beautiful thing she had ever heard.
She asked me to sing that song so many
times that, since then, I associate the song with
her. It was a unique moment that I felt had to be painted in a song. It's
moments like that which
define who we are as artists.
LYRICS
1.
I wonder if you hear me calling for you,
over many miles of peaceful land
In silence of the night, my head is soaring
and so my feelings turn to Sand
2.
Early in the day you plant your garden
as the morning light touches your hair
and while the sun shines down to warm your shoulders
I send my soul into the air
(wohu.... )
3.
What could I give you now to have you near me?
I would
give the sun up in the sky
But you're so far away that you can't hear me
and I don't know the reason why
(wohu....)
*Flute solo
(wohu....)
