THE MIDNIGHT OWL
Music and Lyrics by Nicola Marcello D'Amico
I don't know who's to blame, the slick and handsome stud going out to the late bar looking for a one night stand with
a lonely,
desperate divorcee, or the tricked-out young woman who sits at the bar, waiting for that dashing guy to sweep
her away. The result
of
the bar scene is most often a feeling of having been used.
I played in these smoky bars for years
and had a unique perspective on
this
issue. Why would a girl put herself in a position to be seduced by a guy who just
wants a quick conquest, many times hoping
that one
line works well enough to get a girl to fall for it. It's all a guy
needs to succeed, just selling the notion he's actually
interested in her for any reason. Then, the next day, the feeling is dark,
cold
and shallow. The guy rides away solo with another notch on his belt. I guess this song
turns out to be a kind of warning.
It was originally written for my cat, "Dufus". But really, any guy can be the character in this story. Any
"Dufus" can play.
LYRICS
1. You know the night has love
Beneath the shadows of the moonlight
The city street lamps and the smoky bars
are waiting for The Midnight Owl
2. The Midnight Owl has eyes
that
mystify and hypnotize you
The darkest corner of your loneliness
is waiting for The Midnight Owl
B. He's made his mind up and he wants you bad
and you're the best thing that he's ever had
He'll never let you out of his control
until he owns your very soul
3. The morning light has love
But you're alone with just the memory
You'll hear the broken hearted nightingale sing
Too bad about The Midnight Owl
C. It's too bad about The Midnight Owl
It's too sad about The Midnight Owl
You're still mad about The Midnight Owl
B. He's made his mind up and he wants you bad
and if you fall in love, he'll drive you mad
He'll never let you out of his control
until he owns your very soul
3. The morning light has love
But you're alone with just the memory
You'll hear the broken hearted nightingale sing
Too bad about The Midnight Owl
Chorus.
It's too bad about The Midnight Owl
It's too sad about The Midnight Owl
You're still mad about The Midnight Owl
You've been had by The Midnight Owl
It's too bad
It's too sad
You're still mad
You've been had by The Midnight Owl
It's too bad
It's too sad
You're still mad
You've been had by The Midnight Owl
